How to Set Up a Successful Google Search Campaign

He will start with a step-by-step process on how to set up a Google Search campaign.

The structure and strategy I will be sharing with you today is the same one I use for all my Google Search campaigns, regardless of the budget. Whether it's a small campaign or a large one, this structure and strategy can help you scale and grow your campaign as your business grows.

To start, it's important to understand that Google Search campaigns are built on matching highly relevant ads with highly relevant search terms. This means we need to set up our campaigns with the correct structure in order to easily track the performance of different parts of our campaign, conduct search term audits, run split tests, and optimize our targeting.

Here's the structure we will be using, called the "One Keyword Theme Method":

-Create different campaigns based on specific keyword themes. For example, if you're running an ad for your SaaS sales platform, you could have campaigns for the real estate companies, insurance companies, hr companies, etc. -Within each campaign, create individual ad groups. For example, in the one-bedroom Villas campaign, have an ad group targeting one-bedroom Villa keywords. -Each ad group should lead to a relevant landing page based on the targeted keywords. For example, a search for "one-bedroom Villa" should lead to a landing page specifically for one-bedroom Villas.

This structure allows you to easily track the performance of each keyword theme and make necessary optimizations. It ensures that you are matching the right ads with the right search terms and taking users to highly relevant landing pages.

Now let's dive into the step-by-step process of setting up your own Google Search campaign. I'll go through these steps quickly, but don't worry, you can download my Google Ads Search Campaign Setup Guide at the end of this article for detailed screenshots of each step.

  1. Start by logging into your Google Ads dashboard or create a new account if you don't have one yet.

  2. Click on "New Campaign".

  3. Select either "Sales" or "Leads" depending on your campaign goal. If you're a service-based industry looking for phone calls or form inquiries, choose "Leads". If you're an e-commerce store looking for online sales, choose "Sales".

  4. Name your campaign using a proper naming convention that makes sense to you. For example, "1BV Seminyak Search" for a campaign targeting one-bedroom Villas in Seminyak.

  5. Choose your bidding strategy. If it's a new campaign with no account history, start with "Clicks" and consider adding a conversions bidding strategy later on.

  6. Skip the campaign goals if you don't have conversion actions set up yet.

  7. Select "Search" as the campaign type.

  8. Set your location targeting. Choose the country or countries you want to target. Use the "Presence" option to target people who are regularly in your targeted locations.

  9. Add relevant audience segments to target the right types of audiences. This will help you understand which audiences are converting for different search terms.

  10. Add demographic data to get a better understanding of who is interacting with your ads. This data can help with future optimizations.

  11. Set your budget. Start with a custom budget that aligns with your monthly spend goals. Google uses a daily budget, so input the average daily budget to achieve your monthly spend target.

  12. Review your settings and publish the campaign.

Congratulations! You've successfully set up your Google Search campaign.
